Those who are interested in applying for a doctorate take note: lately, changes were made in the Authority for Research Students in the process of applying and acceptance for doctoral studies.

Acceptance to the doctoral track in the Department of Psychology is conditional upon approval from the Authority for Research Students and approval from the department.

For the Authority for Research Students website and to look at the procedures for submitting candidacy for the doctorate and for registration procedures, click here (in Hebrew).

The Department of Psychology requires that the candidate be accepted to one of the following doctoral tracks:

Regular track

The regular Ph.D. track in the Department of Psychology is intended for students who finished their M.A. studies (including the M.A. thesis). Before applying to the Authority for Research Students, candidates in this track much find an advisor from among the senior faculty of the department and a formulated topic for the Ph.D. thesis that is agreed upon by the advisor.

The Authority for Research Students will transfer the candidate’s request for discussion among the Doctorate Committee of the department that will discuss and decide whether to accept the candidate. During the admissions process, a lot of weight will be given to information regarding the candidate’s excellence in research.
A successful completion of an M.A. thesis does not guarantee acceptance into the doctoral track.

The committee's decision will be sent by the Authority for Research Students.

Direct Ph.D tracks

Aside from the regular Ph.D. track, the Department of Psychology has three "direct” doctoral acceptance tracks. The department views these tracks as tracks for academic excellence. Students who are accepted to these tracks will be entitled to a stipend from the Department of Psychology in the amount of 2,000 NIS a month (as of 2011).
